glock 17 parts breakdown

glock 17 parts breakdown

Glock 17 Parts Breakdown - There are only two types of components in a Glock pistol: those that have broken and those that will. Despite its well-deserved reputation as tough as nails, every part of your Glock pistol will fail at some point. If you shoot it enough. Learn the best way to maintain your Glock and learn when and how to replace parts before one of them fails

In the past 2 years alone, I have fired over 70,000 rounds through my Glock pistol in practice and competition. I mention this fact because, while I diligently maintain my Glocks, those 70,000 rounds (55,000 of them in a single G19) have revealed some interesting and instructive maintenance issues.

With this experience in mind, I will share here some suggestions to maintain your Glock pistol for long life and high reliability. Of course, nothing is certain with mechanical devices, but the steps I will share here will ensure you are doing your part and doing your part to minimize the possibility of a destructive or life-threatening situation. But one thing you must know: your mileage may vary.

Firearm ownership comes with certain responsibilities. Among them is the duty to keep track of the exact number of firearms you own - AND every part of it. Unless you count the exact number of shots for each and every element of the weapon and act accordingly when necessary, when training or defending your life, you will experience embarrassing or possibly life-threatening failures. Are they not

Each time you replace a component (well before it fails), record the date and number of rounds, and then record the target round number for its next replacement. Watch and record your round count each time you fire the gun. When the count exceeds the appropriate threshold for the life of a particular component, replace it and continue. Let's look at the life of the element at a time.

First, clean your Glock every time you shoot it. Keep it clean like new and it will last for a long time. Also, I recommend a complete disassembly cleaning every 2000 rounds, as I believe it takes that many rounds to find the internals dirty enough to be a concern. As with all gun maintenance, I err on the side of caution rather than push my luck.

My Glock 19 after 2 years and 55,000 rounds fired. So far I have replaced the recoil spring, trigger spring, and slide spring several times, and I have replaced the extractor, magazine magazine spring, counterspring, and spring cup once. To clean the parts, disassemble your Glock at this point and clean each component thoroughly. Make sure each component is completely dry before assembling.

After complete disassembly of the slide and the frame, thoroughly clean each component and clean each cavity of the slide and the frame. I recommend you

Remove magazine catch and spring or slide spring closure except for replacement as this may damage and weaken these springs.

I recommend using only dry Q-tips or other dry materials to clean the slide cavities for the shock and extract. You don't want even a slightly wet surface in your striker channel. Regardless of how you clean the rest of the components, be sure to dry them completely with a dry cloth before assembling.

The really dirty components that need special attention are the rocket (especially the edge of the blade / groove), the safe firing piston, and the business part of the receiver. I use Rem Oil wipes or a pad dampened with Rem Oil to dig into these areas with my fingernails and remove the powder residue completely.

There is no way to know when a component of an iron weapon will fail. Therefore, responsibility dictates that we replace components at the recommended count intervals. Better to replace parts before you think you need!

Most Glock parts are fairly expensive, and I recommend that you always have a couple of parts for each of your Glocks. That way, if you fail—and if you practice a lot at all, you will—you can just hand in the new replacement without ordering or waiting for it to arrive.

Some Glock pistol components wear out faster than others and require regular replacement. These include the recoil spring assembly, trigger spring, slide lock spring, and magazine catch spring.

The recoil spring is the backbone of your gun. There are many ideas and choices about when to replace coil springs a) to prevent cycling problems and b) to prevent the locking pin from breaking. I recommend replacing the recoil spring in .40 cal and .357 Sig every 3000 to 5000 rounds. For .380, 9mm, .45, and 10mm, I recommend changing every 5,000 to 10,000 rounds.

Maintaining Your Glock

Glock factory springs. I've tried a few others and not once has any non-Glock OEM recoil spring lasted more than 1000 rounds before breaking or starting to cause cycling problems. Many other non-OEM parts can work well in a Glock, but I believe there is no substitute for a Glock spring if you are at all concerned with reliability. Here again, your mileage may vary. Coil spring kits usually cost between $7 and $20. You can also consider periodically replacing the locking block pin every 30,000 to 40,000 rounds for about $3.

With a broken trigger spring, you don't own a weapon so much as a paperweight. I have never experienced a broken trigger spring on my Glock. I read that the trigger spring should be replaced every 10,000 rounds, so that's what I did. The trigger spring failure is one I don't want to be tempted because they only cost $2. It's cheap; especially compared to a potentially life-threatening failure.

If the slide lock spring is broken, the slide will slide right off the frame. The slide lock is the mechanism you use to remove your Glock. The two tabs that push on each side of the frame are the sides of the slide set. The main spring is embedded in the frame and will just snap in half from time to time. One of my Glock 19 Gen 4 broke after 31,000 rounds (I should have replaced it sooner!). I recommend replacing the slide lock spring every 10,000 rounds. These fountains cost about $3.

Glock 17 Parts Breakdown

A broken magazine spring means your gun cannot hold a magazine that will drop immediately. The magazine catch spring on my Glock 19 Gen 4 broke after 51,000 rounds. It is a spring that sinks deep inside the grip and you will never need to remove it unless you replace it or remove or replace the magazine release. I've never seen data on how often they fail, but you can't run your Glock without one. They cost about $3. I recommend changing every 20,000 rounds.

Rival Arms Slide Completion Kit Glock 17 19 26 34 Gen 3 4 Black

I only mention this because it is not uncommon to need to replace it, but not necessarily due to wear and tear. I only assembled the slide stop lever spring once, I think it was during the cleaning of the first part of my first Glock pistol. However, I have read that it is a common fairy tale.

"release slide") spring is not really prone to failure in firing or use, but it is a delicate spring and can be easily bent. When disassembling a gun, it is not unusual for the end of the spring to catch on something and bend. It is also vulnerable to accidental bending when cleaning the lever to stop sliding with a plate. Although it is possible that you can bend the spring back into the correct shape, it is not possible. Don't try to install a new spring, just replace the arm and spring assembly for about $7.

I would recommend replacing the spring and spring cup every 20,000 rounds or so, but I haven't seen any official recommendations. It is a vital spring season and the spring cups are quite delicate. These components are part of a violent mechanical process for each trigger pull, so wear is a factor. A spring and cup set costs about $3.

The striker is probably a lifelong part of the Glock, but I would recommend replacing it every 40,000 rounds. Especially if you regularly engage in dry fire practice (you do, right?).

Yes, other parts can break, but the above components are unlikely to work and require responsible attention to their condition, function and periodic replacement.

The strong and simple design of the Glock pistol gives it an inherent tendency to just keep working in all adverse conditions, but to last for years and years and thousands and thousands of rounds, it is better to keep it like new.

In addition to the components listed here, be sure to check ALL components on the gun every time you clean it. Guard figures can crack, but rails can

Glock 17 P80 Lower - Let's continue to eliminate it. If you are reading this to find out if the Polymer 80 Glock is easy to build, let me answer you now. So. It is easy to do and I believe anyone can do it. Polymer 80 Glocks are easy to build, and the one I'm currently looking at was made using a small 80, a Dremel, and a hand drill. It took me a few hours and sanding, but now it works like a pro. If you are on the fence, just dive in and do it.

Now that we've got a few quirks out of the way, let's talk about the Polymer 80 Glock I built and give a quick review. The PF940V2 is a full range model that uses Glock 17, 22, 34, 24, 35, 31 or 17L cartridges. Most of us will probably build a Glock 17 or 34. I chose the 17. Now for sale at Rockey Brass!

Glock 17 P80 Lower

Polymer 80 Glocks use Gen 3 parts, which are common and easy to find. I went with a Glock 17 display which is a Larry Vickers Special Edition, a Bear Creek Arsenal barrel, and a set of Glock OEM lowers. The Glock kit includes an extended magazine release and bolt lock.

Polymer 80 Aft Pfc9 Build Kit

I find the Poly 80 frame to be superior to the Glock OEM frame in many ways. It doesn't have a finger groove which is amazing. It uses a 19-degree 1911 grip angle with a 22-degree Glock grip, which is more comfortable and natural. The rail is a real high quality rail and Glock's amazing rail system. The back of the gun also has a dovetail, which you won't find with an OEM Glock stock. The PF940V2 is the original American Glock.

As you know, it is good in America. All these changes to the lower part of the frame make the Glock more ergonomic and easier to use. The Polymer80 grip is more comfortable for me, but this is, of course, an opinion. It feels more natural, but if you've been using a Glock for years, it might seem strange to you.

One thing I like about the Polymer80 Glock is the addition of the beaver tail. The only problem I have encountered with Glocks is the clip bite. If I hold the gun carefully and hold it, the bolt will bite me with every shot and eventually break the skin. The 80 polymer frame doesn't offer the same bite. The addition of a beaver tail protects you from this and gives you more strength to fight the fog.

If the gun is running reliably, you are unlikely to see a significant difference in accuracy with the Polymer 80. The frame will never affect accuracy. This makes the gun more comfortable to shoot and easier to control. I think the Polymer 80 eliminates a lot of the criticism the Glock gets. Even Glock has eliminated the fingerprint on the new generation of Glock pistols.

Polymer80 Pfs9 Glock 17/22 Serialized Stripped Frame, Standard Grip Texture

The disadvantage of using the wrong system is the secondary market. You lose consistency with multiple holsters and different accessories. Some indoor like triggers will be compatible with each other. However, accessories like magwells will no longer work.

Another disadvantage is reliability. You have to ask yourself, do you trust your skills as a gunsmith? I personally did not. I will not use my Polymer80 Glock as a defensive weapon unless I have to. Although I haven't experienced any reliability issues, I prefer the Glock OEM pistol for defense use. The good news is that you can buy a complete Poly 80 frame, but this will require an FFL transfer on all the parts needed to assemble the gun.

Polymer80 Glock is an interesting project that allows you to make your own weapon. For me, this is just work. For some, this may be the easiest way to legally own a gun. With varying state laws making it increasingly difficult to purchase a handgun, building your own may be your only option. If you're under 21, you can't buy a gun from a gun store, but there's no federal law that prevents you from building your own. Of course, check your state's laws.
